Mary Brogan is a 14-year-old outcast whose primary refuge is her world of fantasy. When her best friend, her mother, suddenly dies, Mary Brogan spins out of control. She runs away from her new home with her aunt and uncle and returns to the basement of her old and now vacant house. The house becomes her hideout and she also hopes that she can prevent its sale to strangers. Mary Brogan makes friends with a barista, Chloe, 26. She begins attending college classes with Chloe and her cool college friends. As Mary Brogan immerses herself more deeply into her new world, her aunt, uncle, and police desperately try to track her down. Can Mary Brogan’s new life as a runaway and an unexpected college student save her from the pain of losing her mother?
